Larimer County surpasses 1,200 COVID-19 cases – Loveland Reporter-Herald

With 24 new cases reported Saturday, Larimer County surpassed 1,200 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus since the first case was diagnosed March 9.

The count now stands at 1,212.

The Larimer County Department of Public Health and Environment coronavirus website lists the current risk at medium, although two high risk factors are listed — there have been 28 new cases in a 24-hour hour period and in 12 of the 14 past days more than 15 new cases were reported.

So far, 44,525 tests have been conducted, and 3.6% have been positive, a percentage that has remained steady even as reports of new cases have been rising in recent weeks.

The 24 new cases reported Saturday included 22 confirmed cases and two probable cases. The probable cases were in a man and woman from Loveland. The confirmed cases included two from Loveland, two from Berthoud, 12 from Fort Collins, two from Timnath and one each from Johnstown, Windsor, Bellvue and Estes Park. Ages ranged from 14 to 84, though 17 of the 24 were ages 20-40.

Two cases were added to the number of suspect cases, which now stands at 350. Cases are listed as suspect when someone has tested positive using a antibody test but did not have COVID-19 symptoms or clinical characteristics. Those who test positive for antibodies have likely recovered and are no longer able to spread the virus, according to the health department.

Those whose cases listed as confirmed or probable are likely to be able to spread the virus at the time their test was done, so the health department investigates them to try to reduce the potential spread of the disease.

The number of county residents who have died due to the virus remains unchanged at 32, and the number of outbreaks remains 23.
