Anthony Fauci to join Scott’s Covid-19 press conference tomorrow
Dr. Anthony Fauci will make a guest appearance at Gov. Phil Scott’s press conference on Tuesday, his administration announced in an email Monday.
Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is widely trusted by the scientific community and continues to serve on the White House Coronavirus Task Force, although he has been criticized and in some cases sidelined by the Trump administration.
Fauci has recently said it will be more than a year before the U.S. returns to some semblance of normalcy, contradicting the president’s more optimistic assertions.
In an email announcing his guest appearance, which the administration teased last week, it said Fauci would be available from 11 to 11:30. “Questions will be moderated, and reporters will get only one question of Dr. Fauci,” it said.
Scott’s press conferences are broadcast live on radio and television stations, and generally attract 20 or more reporters asking questions from around the state.
The Scott administration said the governor and cabinet members would be available after Fauci on Tuesday, as usual, for an update on its Covid-19 response and questions.
Scott is running for reelection this November against Lt. Gov. David Zuckerman, the Democratic and Progressive nominee for governor. He has largely decided against traditional campaigning to focus on his administration’s pandemic response.
