We can’t defeat COVID-19 with selfishness
How did this great country ever get to the point where 200,000-plus citizens died from COVID-19? Was is it a failure of leadership from this president’s administration, or the public refusing to follow health guidelines of masking and social distancing? Does it matter to the dead whose fault it was?
So what can we do to prevent more people from dying? I would say give credence to doctors and scientists, not politicians, as far as COVID-19 is concerned. This coronavirus will not magically disappear. We all have to commit to doing our part to eradicate this virus, and if that means wearing face masks and getting tested, how big a sacrifice is that to make? Have we become so numb as a country that we can not consider anybody but ourselves?

Tough to explain following Trump so ‘blindly’
Kudos to the recent letter, “Trump’s following is like a cult”. What else but a cult could explain blindly following one incompetent and morally corrupt man that pathologically lies and demeans our military, our fallen war heroes and all 17 U.S. intelligence agencies that concluded that Russia, did in fact, helped to elect him to an undeserving presidency that saw 3 million more votes go to his opponent?
Say nothing of his defiance of democratic norms and his fascistic, autocratic aspirations dragging our nation’s integrity through the mud. His inability to keep America safe from a pandemic … shows his apathy for the survival of our citizens. Our nation is in the fast lane toward fascism. Trump’s war on women’s reproductive rights, democracy, decency and honesty and his power grabs and cronyism are all indicators of fascism in America.

It is relevant that Trump is a ‘draft dodger’
I would like to answer the question a letter writer asked on Sept. 21, “So what if Trump dodged the draft?”
President Trump is the commander-in-chief of the U.S. Armed Forces. To have a draft dodger as our commander-in-chief is a disgrace.
Every soldier knows fear. Soldiers overcome their fear and perform their duties admirably. No one shames a soldier for being afraid.
Trump succumbed to his fear and broke the law to avoid performing his duty.

Winning popular vote should yield more power
Democrats should stop trying to play by rules that don’t exist. We need to take the White House, Senate and House. Make Washington, D.C. a state. Make Puerto Rico a state, and add a couple of justices. Time to get real and make real change. Enough being ruled by the minority! Republicans received far less votes overall than Democrats. The president lost the popular vote. Time for the majority to take back the control of our government.

Rubio, Scott must open their eyes
A recent letter writer urged that Florida Sens. Marco Rubio and Rick Scott stand up for millions of Florida children and support the U.S. House-approved HEROES Act. In saying that “anyone with two eyes can see that to reopen safely, schools need resources right now,” the writer failed to mention that most Republican senators, our two included, tightly close their eyes on entering the Senate chamber, by order of their leader, Mitch McConnell. It’s a wonder they don’t trip over the furniture there.
