Active COVID-19 cases reach all-time high in Northeast Tennessee on Friday | WJHL
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee Department of Health reported 428 new COVID-19 cases, nine new deaths, and 51 new inactive or recovered cases in Northeast Tennessee on Friday.
There are currently 3,731 active cases in Northeast Tennessee, up from 3,363 yesterday. That’s an all-time high number of active cases for the area.
Three counties also have a record number of active cases: Greene, Sullivan, and Washington.
Two new deaths were reported in Carter, Greene, Hawkins, and Sullivan counties, and one new death was reported in Washington County.
To date, there have been 27,975 cases and 506 deaths reported in Northeast Tennessee since the pandemic began.
The state also logged a record high number of active cases and single-day increase in active cases with 47,457 reported, an increase of 6,168 over Thursday.
There are currently 2,640 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee, also a record.
