VDH: New COVID-19 death in Norton, 79 new cases in Southwest Virginia | WJHL
RICHMOND, Va. (WJHL) — Southwest Virginia counties reported 79 new COVID-19 cases and one new death Wednesday, according to the Virginia Department of Health (VDH).
The one death was reported in the city of Norton.
Statewide, VDH reported 427,188 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Commonwealth.
According to VDH, the total number of confirmed and probable cases is 537,319.
VDH reports there have been 5,951 confirmed coronavirus-related deaths across the state.

Bristol, Va. – 1,198 cases / 74 hospitalizations / 27 deaths (1 new case/ 1 new hospitalization)
Buchanan County – 1,232 cases / 86 hospitalizations / 32 deaths (13 new cases/ 3 new hospitalizations)
Dickenson County – 838 cases / 35 hospitalizations / 14 deaths (1 new case)
Lee County – 2,208 cases / 87 hospitalizations / 38 deaths (5 new cases)
Norton – 233 cases / 16 hospitalizations / 4 deaths (1 new death)
Russell County – 1,951 cases / 106 hospitalizations / 26 deaths (-4 cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Scott County – 1,534 cases / 108 hospitalizations / 46 deaths (1 new case)
Smyth County – 2,462 cases / 162 hospitalizations / 83 deaths (7 new cases)
Tazewell County – 3,106 cases/ 123 hospitalizations / 36 deaths (38 new cases/ 1 new hospitalization)
Washington County, Va. – 4,183 cases / 320 hospitalizations / 85 deaths (9 new cases/ 6 new hospitalizatons)
Wise County – 2,742 cases / 144 hospitalizations / 84 deaths (4 new cases/ 2 new hospitalizatons)
The Virginia Department of Health does not report recoveries from the virus.
