All of South Central Illinois now at low level for COVID-19 hospitalizations

Both Jefferson and Wayne Counties have returned to the low level of COVID-19 hospitalizations in the latest update from the CDC COVID-19 tracker.   The rest of South Central Illinois also remains at the low level.  In fact, only five counties in the state are currently at the medium level for hospitalizations.  All are along the Mississippi River north of St. Louis.  No counties are at the high level as COVID cases statewide appear to be on the decrease.

The latest data shows just one new COVID-19 hospitalization in Marion and Washington Counties in the last reporting period.  Marion County Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says the final congregate care facility in Centralia that had a lengthy COVID-19 outbreak reported no new cases in the last reporting period and were lifted from outbreak status.

Some cottages at Murray Center in Centralia are on outbreak status, but no hospitalizations have been reported among staff or residents.

The CDC reports five new COVID-19 related hospitalizations in Jefferson and Wayne County, two in Fayette and Effingham Counties, two more in Clay and Jasper County and 20 new hospitalizations between Clinton and St. Clair Counties.
