Lenawee County remains in the medium community COVID-19 level as of Aug. 18, 2022, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Counties in the medium level are shown in yellow, counties in the low level are green, and counties in the high level are orange.

In Monroe, Washtenaw, Wayne, Macomb, Oakland and Livingston counties, which are in the high category, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone wear masks while at indoor, public places regardless of COVID vaccination status.

Like Lenawee County, Jackson County in Michigan and Lucas and Fulton counties in Ohio are in the medium community COVID level. In the medium level, the CDC recommends people at risk of serious illness from the virus wear masks while at indoor, public places such as stores and theaters.

Hillsdale County is in the low community COVID-19 level. Williams County in Ohio is in the high level.

The CDC uses new COVID cases and hospitalizations per 100,000 people in a seven-day period to determine the community COVID level.

Lenawee County reported 280 cases and zero deaths in the latest week, a USA TODAY Network analysis of Johns Hopkins University data shows. A week earlier, it had reported 215 cases and two deaths. Throughout the pandemic it has reported 27,527 cases and 332 deaths.

â€‹Within Michigan, the worst weekly outbreaks on a per-person basis were in Iron County with 452 cases per 100,000 per week; Dickinson County with 368; and Huron County with 294.

As of Thursday when the CDC updates the community COVID levels, Lenawee County’s weekly count of new COVID cases on a per-person basis was 284 per 100,000.

New coronavirus cases leaped in Michigan in the week ending Sunday, rising 43.6% as 23,165 cases were reported. The previous week had 16,137 new cases of the virus that causes COVID-19.

Michigan ranked 11th among the states where coronavirus was spreading the fastest on a per-person basis, the Johns Hopkins data shows. In the latest week coronavirus cases in the United States decreased 11.2% from the week before, with 707,345 cases reported. With 3% of the country’s population, Michigan had 3.27% of the country’s cases in the last week. Across the country, eight states had more cases in the latest week than they did in the week before.

â€‹In Michigan, 103 people were reported dead of COVID-19 in the week ending Sunday. In the week before that, 137 people were reported dead.

A total of 2,731,787 people in Michigan have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, and 37,774 people have died from the disease, Johns Hopkins University data shows. In the United States 93,641,944 people have tested positive and 1,041,149 people have died.

Hospitals in 14 states reported more COVID-19 patients than a week earlier, while hospitals in 19 states had more COVID-19 patients in intensive-care beds. Hospitals in 20 states admitted more COVID-19 patients in the latest week than a week prior, the USA TODAY analysis of U.S. Health and Human Services data shows.
