The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department announced that 44 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Lincoln today, bringing the community total to 2,226. The number of deaths in the community remains at 13.
Lincoln Officials said that an increasing number of cases are being caused by young adults. According to officials, individuals aged 20 to 29 constitute 18.5 percent of population, but 57 percent of all cases in last two weeks.
Officials warned that should COVID-19 continue to increase, officials will have to implement rules, which can include restricting gathering sizes, reducing capacity or closing bars, revising requirements for sports, and requiring masks for public venues and work spaces.
“We must come together as a community to protect one another before things get as bad as Miami, Huston, or Phoenix,” said Mayor Gaylor Baird. “This virus doesn’t play favorites, there is no Lincoln exemption to the coronavirus. What we do have in Lincoln is a head start, and what do see happening in Miami, Huston and Phoenix is something we can act now to avoid.”
