Members of Florida family sent to prison for selling fake ‘Miracle Cure’ for COVID-19
Four members of a Florida family were sent to prison for producing and selling a chemical solution that turns into bleach when ingested, with two of them receiving sentences of 12 1/2 years.
Jonathan Grenon, 37, and Jordan Grenon, 29, who received the longest sentences, were convicted of distributing an unapproved and misbranded drug, and also of threatening government officials who ordered them to stop selling the products, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in southern Florida.
Also convicted during a recent trial were Mark Grenon, 66, and Joseph Grenon, 36, with those two sentenced to 60 months in prison.
Authorities said the Grenons made and sold a product called “Miracle Mineral Solution” which contains sodium chlorite and water, and which turns into industrial-grade bleach when ingested.
Authorities said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration “received reports of people requiring hospitalizations, developing life-threatening conditions, and even dying after drinking MMS.”
Before marketing it as a cure for COVID-19, the Grenons marketed it as a treatment for dozens of other serious conditions, including cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDs and Alzheimer’s disease, authorities said.
They did so under the guise of Genesis II Church of Health and Healing, which required “donations” toward the products, had no religious purpose, and which the Glenons hoped would shield them from prosecution, authorities said.
Authorities said they manufactured the product in a “dirty rundown shed” in Jonathan Grenon’s backyard in Bradenton, Fla.
The Grenons threatened to “pick up guns” and “instigate a Waco” should the government try to enforce court orders against them, authorities said.
