58 more recoveries, 40 new cases reported in Washoe County

Washoe County reported 58 more recoveries and 40 new COVID-19 cases Wednesday, the first time in about a week that there were more recoveries than cases reported in a day, according to the Regional Information Center.

There have now been 7,827 cases recorded in Washoe County and 6,534 recoveries. The death toll remains at 147.

There are 1,146 active cases. To date,118,362 COVID-19 tests have been performed in Washoe County.

Other data released Wednesday for Washoe County include:

  • 61 percent of all staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (+0% since 9/8)
  • 40 percent of the all Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+1%)
  • 20 percent of all ventilators are in use (+1%)

Nevada surpasses 1,400 COVID-19 deaths

Nevada surpassed 1,400 deaths due to coronavirus, according to updated data from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. The state reported 19 new deaths on Wednesday, bringing the total deaths in Nevada to 1,412.

Data from the state also reported 154 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, Sept. 9. This is slightly higher than the number of cases reported yesterday, but an overall downward trend.

Hospitalizations also went up slightly, with seven new hospitalizations reported today but were consistent with an overall decline since early August. 

Testing took a dip, with 1,926 new tests reported. This is the least amount of tests reported in one day by the state since May 17. 

42 new cases, one death reported Tuesday in Washoe County

Forty-two new cases of the coronavirus were diagnosed in Washoe County in the past day, and one death related to COVID-19 was announced, according to a news release by the Regional Information Center.

The fatal case was that of a man in his 70s with no underlying health conditions, bringing the total number of deaths in the county to 147 since the pandemic first reached the area.

Forty-three patients are currently hospitalized with the coronavirus, the lowest reported number since May. The number is far below recent weeks following an audit of data collected from hospitals, which showed a drastically lower figure.

Sixty-three percent of all staffed short-term acute-care bed hospitals are occupied, including 40% of all intensive care unit beds; both percentages are slightly lower from yesterday. The percentage of ventilators in use remained unchanged at 25%.

Overall, 7,787 cases of the coronavirus have been diagnosed in Washoe County since March; 6,476 patients have reported recoveries. The county’s cumulative positive test rate stands at 5.5%

Nevada surpasses 72,000 COVID-19 total cases; testing sees a decline

Nevada surpassed 72,000 total cases for COVID-19 to date as the state reported 137 more new cases on Tuesday.

Total confirmed cases for COVID-19 in Nevada reached 72,104 as of Sept. 7. While the 137 cases represent the lowest reported since the 106 daily cases reported on June 14, testing also saw a significant dip. The 2,724 tests reported were the lowest seen in the state since the 2,055 tests seen back in June 21. 

Total deaths remained unchanged at 1,393 as the state did not report any new deaths from the virus. Hospitalizations were also down overall.

The daily positivity rate was at 8.3% while the latest seven-day moving average was at 7.9%. The World Health Organization recommends a rate of 5% or lower for 14 straight days prior to reopening. The rate indicates how many COVID-19 tests returned a positive result.

Here are the rest of the COVID-19 numbers:

  • Total tests: 905,525, up by 2,724.
  • Confirmed cases: 72,104, up by 137.
  • Deaths: Unchanged at 1,393.
  • Number of hospitalizations for confirmed cases: 445, down by 20 people. 
  • Hospitalizations from suspected cases: Unchanged at 93 cases.
  • ICU hospitalizations: 170, up by one case.
  • Testing rate: 13.6 per 1,000 people per week.
