Saline, Williamson counties lead list of new COVID-19 cases in southern Illinois

(WSIL) — More than 75 new cases of COVID-19 were reported in southern Illinois Wednesday.

Saline and Williamson counties had the highest number of new cases, with 17 and 14 respectively. The two counties, along with Franklin County, also announced additional deaths.

The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) has reported 1,848 new cases of COVID-19 in the state, including 22 additional confirmed deaths.

Currently, IDPH is reporting a total of 279,114 cases, including 8,508 deaths, in Illinois.

FRANKLIN COUNTY

  • Female: One toddler, one under 10, one teen, one in her 30s, one in her 40s, one in her 50s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his 50s and one in his 70s

In addition to nine new cases of COVID-19, Bi-County Health Department also reported one additional death in Franklin County.

The health department says a Franklin County man in his 80s, previously diagnosed to have COVID-19, passed away.

To date, there have been 510 confirmed cases in the county, including three deaths.

GALLATIN COUNTY

  • One male under the age of 10

According to Egyptian Health Department, Gallatin County has had 73 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including two deaths.

HARDIN COUNTY

There have been 36 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hardin County. Southern Seven Health Department says nine cases are currently active.

JACKSON COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 80s
  • Male: Two in their 20s, two in their 50s and one in his 60s

Jackson County has had 1,253 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 24 related deaths. The health department says 62 active cases are currently being managed.

JEFFERSON COUNTY

  • Female: One under the age of 12, one in her 30s and one in her 60s
  • Male: One in his 50s and one in his 70s

There have been 593 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 32 deaths, in Jefferson County. The health department says 31 active cases are currently in isolation.

JOHNSON COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 40s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his 30s

Johnson County has had 164 confirmed cases of COVID-19. Southern Seven Health Department says 54 cases are currently active.

MASSAC COUNTY

  • Male: One under 5, one in 10s and one in his 20s

There have been 97 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including two deaths, in Massac County. Health officials say 33 cases are currently active.

PERRY COUNTY

  • Female: One under the age of 14 and one in her 30s
  • Male: One in his 30s and one in his 60s

There have been 344 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Perry County, including 16 deaths. The health department says 19 cases are currently active.

PULASKI COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 60s
  • Male: One in his 30s, three in their 40s and one in his 50s

Pulaski County has had 165 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including one death. Southern Seven Health Department says 29 cases are currently active.

RANDOLPH COUNTY

  • 4 new cases for Wednesday, Sept. 23

There have been 938 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 11 deaths, in Randolph County. Health officials say 51 cases are currently active.

SALINE COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 20s, one in her 30s, two in their 40s, two in their 50s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his teens, three in their 30s, one in his 40s, one in his 50s, two in their 60s and two in their 70s

In addition to 17 new cases of COVID-19, Egyptian Health Department also reported one additional death in Saline County.

The health department says there have been 309 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including four deaths, in the county.

UNION COUNTY

  • Female: One in her 30s and one in her 60s
  • Male: One in his 20s, one in his 40s, one in his 50s and one in his 70s

Union County has had 491 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 20 deaths. Southern Seven Health Department says 83 cases are currently active.

WILLIAMSON COUNTY

  • Female: One teen, one in her 20s, one in her 30s, two in their 40s and one in her 70s
  • Male: One in his 20s, one in his 30s, three in their 40s, one in his 50s, one in his 60s and one in his 70s

In addition to 14 new cases of COVID-19, Bi-County Health also announced two additional deaths in Williamson County.

The health department says a man and a woman, each in their 70s from long term care facilities in the county, passed away.

To date, there have been 1,369 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 40 deaths, in Williamson County.
