Student at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden Tests Positive for COVID-19 – NBC Connecticut
A student at Lincoln Middle School in Meriden has tested positive for COVID-19, has been sent home to isolate and other students who are in the class will need to quarantine for 14 days before returning to school.
Meriden Public School Superintendent Mark Benigni said in a video statement that the school department learned today that a student had tested positive and that student was immediately sent to the school’s isolation area and is now home to isolate.
“Despite all health guidance, the parents sent the student to school while waiting for the test results. Not only does this impact this family, but also the classroom of students,” Benigni said. “If not for our strict co-horting model, many more students could have been impacted.”
The other students in the class will have to quarantine for 14 days and will not be able to return to school until Sept. 25.
Benigni added that the infected student has been “excluded” from school.
“I cannot emphasize how important it is that we all work together. if your child is not feeling well, you must keep your child home from school. If your child has been tested for COVID-19, your child may not return to school until you receive notification that your child does not have COVID-19,” he said. “Working together is the only way we can keep our students and staff healthy and support in-person learning.”
Benigni said the Meriden Health and Human Services Department is reaching out to all families whose children are considered a close contact of the positive student and will provide guidance.
