Nevada cases increase by nearly 1,000 in past day

Nevada’s death toll from COVID-19 reached 835 as the state reported on Saturday five more deaths from the virus.

The state also reported 986 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nevada to 49,074 as of August 1. Confirmed hospitalizations fell by 18; suspected hospitalizations increased by 24. Intensive care unit cases remained at 333.

The daily testing positivity rate was 24.1 percent on August 1. The World Health Organization recommends a rate of 5 percent or less for 14 straight days prior to reopening.

Washoe County: 42 cases, 1 death in past day

Friday

Washoe County reported one more death from COVID-19 Friday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the virus to 114.

One person, a man in his 70s with underlying health conditions, is reported to have died of the coronavirus. Washoe also announced 42 newly identified cases, down sharply from Thursday’s report of 179 cases in the county. The latest tally brings the total number of confirmed cases in Washoe to 5,186 since the pandemic started.

The 42 new cases were identified through 837 tests for a single-day positivity rate of 5.0%. Washoe County’s seven-day rolling positive test rate rose to 6.9%

Here are the rest of the latest county numbers:

  • Active cases: 1,277, down by 21 people over the past day
  • Recoveries: 3,795, up by 62 people
  • Currently hospitalized: 84, the same number as Thursday
  • Discharged from hospital: 372, up by 9 people
  • Total number of tests performed: 85,831, up by 837 tests
  • Share of staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds that are occupied: 63%, the same percentage as Thursday
  • Occupied ICU beds: 33%, up by 3 percentage points
  • Ventilator capacity in use: 15%, up by 1 percentage point

Nevada hits new one-day high for reported fatalities with 29

Friday

Nevada’s death toll from COVID-19 reached 830 as the state reported 29 more deaths from the virus on Friday.

The number of new deaths topped the previous high of 21, reached on both Wednesday and Thursday. The state also reported 1,264 new cases, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Nevada to 48,088 as of July 31. Hospitalizations from the virus saw an increase as well.

Clark County continued to account for most of the cases in the state. The 41,245 cases reported in the southern Nevada county account for 86% of all COVID-19 cases seen in the state since the pandemic started. It also has the highest incidence with a case rate of 1,779 per 100,000 people. Washoe County was second with 5,144 cases and a rate of 1,076 cases per 100,000 people. To date, total deaths in Clark stand at 687 while deaths in Washoe are at 111. County numbers from the state might not match the data released by individual counties.

The daily testing positivity rate rose was 20.8% on Thursday while the seven-day moving average rose to 15.2%. The World Health Organization recommends a rate of 5% or below for 14 straight days prior to reopening.

Here are the rest of the numbers for Nevada.

  • Number of hospitalizations for confirmed cases: 934, up by 17 people. 
  • Hospitalizations from suspected cases: 225, down by 3 people.
  • ICU hospitalizations: Increased to 333, up by 6 people.
  • Testing rate: 15.6 per 1,000 people per week.
  • Total number of tests: 616,731, up by 9,443.
  • Total people tested: 468,967, up by 6,082.
