Easy Seared Tuna Tacos

I’m excited to share this refreshing and EASY summer dish. Seared tuna takes just a couple minutes to cook and is a tasty way to switch up your taco night. My family devoured this meal, and we discovered it’s still pretty darn good leftover the next day.

It paired perfectly with the homemade slaw and some fresh mango on the side. Oh, how I love warm weather food. What yummy recipes have you been cooking this summer? I’d love to hear in the comments below!

Ingredients

For the Tuna + Marinade

  • 1 pound fresh ahi tuna steaks
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger
  • 1 clove garlicminced
  • 1/2 jalapeno pepperor serrano pepper, seeded and minced
  • 1/3 cup raw sesame seeds
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Slaw

  • 3 cups green cabbagethinly sliced
  • 1 cup radishes finely chopped, greens removed
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaveschopped
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup red oniondiced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • pepperto taste

Instructions

For the Tuna + Marinade

  1. Place the tuna in a shallow dish. Whisk together the soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and pepper and pour over top. Add a little water if necessary to fully submerge the fish. Cover and refigerate for at least 30 minutues or up to 2 hours.

  2. Pour the sesame seeds onto a plate. Remove the tuna from the marinade and roll in the seeds to coat.

  3. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the tuna to your desired doneness. We prefer 2 to 3 minutes per side so it’s still mostly pink in the middle. When almost done, pour a couple spoonfuls of the marinade over top of the tuna and cook for a minute more.

  4. Slice the tuna thin and serve with warm corn tortillas and the slaw (recipe below).

For the Slaw

  1. In a large bowl, toss together the cabbage, radishes, cilantro, sour cream, red onion, lime juice, salt, and pepper until well combined.
